SCHIIT DRIVER BITPERFECT UPGRADE
Quantitatively, I want to say the upgrade is about a 20% improvement. it makes it really hard to stop listening. There are a lot of subtle differences that are difficult to quantify, but overall. The Asgard is definitely an improvement for the HD6xx- soundstage opens up to something much more engaging, vocal presence is more forward and is more engaging. And if we're talking an equal price for the AK4490 vs a ES9028. You'll get no audible difference using either unless the on-board is sheilded with way paper. Your could use the digital outputs from your built-in so long as you have it setup for BitPerfect output.

there is an overall organic richness that just sounds better in a direct comparison. Assuming you're running Windows make sure you use the USB driver from Schiit. An upright bass sounds fuller, deeper, with more vibration and roundness. The ESS chip soothes those rough edges, and adds an organic richness, deeper black and velvet edges. ( eBay ) The Schiit Valhalla 2, with Russian Tubes, continues to be one of finest sounding Pre-Amps I've ever discovered, phew But, Schiit continues to insist on retaining two easily corrected problems : 1.) The control labelling seems indeciferable 2.
SCHIIT DRIVER BITPERFECT SERIES
Comparing to the Modi 3 AKM, the AKM series have a brightness, but an almost brittle edge to them. The Schiit gear is reliable and retains an amazing 80 of it's MSRP on the used market. and I wish I had one to directly compare them. The clarity with the new USB is something else. Now however, Eitr compared to the new USB sounds WAY softer and bloomy, bass bloaty and warm, definitely more compact staging, greyer blackground, less dynamic and detailed. The ESS chip sounds to me like the descriptions I've read of the multibit DAC. A little softer and rounder, but a bit less etched than the Gen 5. I installed the Mojo 786kHz driver, set Tidal to allow exclusive use of the. If anything, it might have been slightly better through the onboard card since there was no degradation through cables. The soundstage isnt as big and open as that of the Chord Mojo or Schiit. Testing the onboard ESS DAC card and comparing it directly to running my Modi 3 through the Asgard, there was no appreciable change in volume.
SCHIIT DRIVER BITPERFECT HOW TO
If someone would be kind enough to offer suggestions or point me to information on Linux music players and also info on how to connect them to the async driver it would be hugely appreciated. I am happy to report that it looks like they have that sorted out. Im not sure where to start looking for bitperfect players. I was concerned about getting a DAC card for the Asgard, as most reviews state that the onboard multibit or AKM card runs at a significantly lower output as running a separate DAC. I'm upgrading from a Fulla 3, and also tested the Asgard with a Modi 3 (not 3+). I'm running an Asgard 3 with the ES9028 DAC through the Sennheiser HD6xx. Noticing there are no reviews out on the new ES series of Schiit DACs, I thought a post might be of interest.
